overview
Acute liver failure is a loss of liver function that occurs rapidly – over a few days or weeks – usually in a person without pre-existing liver disease. It is most commonly caused by a hepatitis virus or drugs such as acetaminophen. Acute liver failure is less common than chronic liver failure, which develops more slowly.
Acute liver failure, also known as fulminant liver failure, can lead to serious complications, including excessive bleeding and increased pressure in the brain. It is a medical emergency that requires hospitalization. Acute liver failure Treatment in warangal
symptoms
Signs and symptoms of acute liver failure can include:
- Yellowing of the skin and eyeballs (jaundice)
- Pain in the upper right abdomen
- Abdominal swelling (ascites)
- nausea
- Vomit
The reasons
Acute liver failure occurs when liver cells are badly damaged and can no longer function. Possible causes are:
Paracetamol overdose. Ingesting too much acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Outside of the United States, acetaminophen is known as acetaminophen. Acute liver failure can occur after a very high dose of paracetamol or after doses lasting several days that are higher than recommended daily for several days.
If you or someone you know has overdosed on acetaminophen, see a doctor as soon as possible. Treatment can prevent liver failure. Don’t wait for signs of liver failure. Acute liver failure Treatment in warangal
Complications
Acute liver failure often leads to complications, including:
- Excess fluid in the brain (cerebral edema). Too much fluids create pressure in your brain, which can lead to disorientation, severe mental confusion, and seizures.
- Hemorrhagic and Hemorrhagic Disorders. A failing liver cannot produce enough clotting factors to help the blood clot. Bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract is common with this condition. It can be difficult to control.
- Infections. People with acute liver failure are more likely to develop infections, particularly in the blood and in the airways and urinary tract. Acute liver failure Treatment in warangal
prevention
- Reduce the risk of acute liver failure by taking care of your liver.
- Follow the directions on the medication. If you are taking paracetamol or any other medicine, read the package insert for the recommended dosage and stop taking it. If you already have liver disease, ask your doctor whether it is safe to take paracetamol.
Let your doctor know about all of your medications. Even over-the-counter and herbal medications can interfere with the prescription drugs you take.
Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all. If you want to drink alcohol, do it in moderation. For healthy adults, this means up to one drink a day for women and up to two drinks a day for men.
