
Overview
Dysarthria occurs when the muscles you use to speak are weak or you have trouble controlling them. Dysarthria often results in fuzzy or slow speech which can be difficult to understand.
Common causes of dysarthria are disorders of the nervous system and conditions that cause facial paralysis or weakness in the muscles of the tongue or throat. Certain medications can also cause dysarthria.

Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of dysarthria vary depending on the underlying cause and the type of dysarthria. They may include:
- Speech disorders
- Slow language
- Inability to speak louder than a whisper or to speak too loudly
- Fast speech difficult to understand
- Nose, irritated or strained voice
- Irregular or abnormal speech rhythm
- Uneven speech volume
- Monotonous speech

Complications
