How to correct the split earlobe

On the face, the most common cosmetic problems are the forehead, eyes, cheeks, nose, lips, cheeks, and neckline. Although the ears are an important anatomical subunit of the face, they are largely underrepresented in terms of cosmetic procedures. One of the most common clinical presentations of the ear involves a traumatic phenomenon known as a split or torn earlobe. In most of the world’s societies, the female earlobe is pierced early to accommodate an earring or an earlobe dilator.

Over time, the weight of the earring, coupled with chronic pulling of the earring, can widen the hole and eventually split the earlobe. Since the process is usually progressive, treatment is usually delayed until the earlobe is eventually separated from the weight of the ear piercing. In some cases, a split earlobe can appear in an acute environment with traumatic pull or tear of the earring, resulting in acute injury to the earlobe with simultaneous bleeding. In acute or chronic cases, a split earlobe becomes an important cosmetic problem as the deformity draws attention to the injured ear.

In most women, for cosmetic reasons, the ear goes largely unnoticed until a split earlobe causes a noticeable deformity on the face. Treatment for the split earlobe begins with an assessment of the defect and an understanding of the anatomy of the earlobe. In most cases, acute earlobe injuries are treated more urgently, with the defect assessed immediately, bleeding ear vessels cauterized, and the split earlobe repaired.

Chronically split earlobes, on the other hand, show a wide range of problems depending on the degree of injury and the retained earlobe anatomy. These chronic conditions can thus be categorized according to the degree of the earlobe disorder; Starting with a widened earlobe piercing without disrupting the edge of the earlobe skin, a widened earlobe piercing with the threat of disruption to the edge of the earlobe skin or a complete disruption of the earlobe by the edge of the earlobe skin.

According to archaeological finds, earlobe stretching has been popular for many millennia. So why was it such a permanent ear decoration means?

Or were the earlobes always stretched for decoration, or were there other occult reasons for this practice? It seems certain that in regions of Africa, South America, and Asia, earlobe stretching was a tribal practice and that stretching earlobes were not always just a sign of belonging to a particular tribe or religion, but also a sign of power or supremacy.

The practice may also have been linked to quasi-religious beliefs and the need to stretch the earlobes to conform to today’s social and religious practices. In other words, it was expected by people for whatever reason, and that could also be a driving force for those looking for ear extension today.

The influence of tattooing

Another reason the elongated earlobe has become so popular is the way that tattoos are ubiquitous among young people these days, with most being tattooed somewhere and many wearing half or full sleeves. Tattooing was originally done by Westerners who traveled the world – in other words, seafarers who were exposed to this form of body decoration.

However, it became popular among the aristocracy in the 19th and early 20th centuries and then became commonplace among young people as a means of physical adornment until anyone who wanted it had a tattoo somewhere on their body. It is no longer a visible sign of being different or “modern”, and there are no ordinary piercings either, not even for tragus, septum, eyebrows or lips, which are also common in the 21st century.

Stretched earlobes – a matter of degree

These days, ear stretching can be used as a fashion statement more than any simple piercing or tattoo, and stretched earlobes are another step further than traditional ear piercing, which stretched into multiple piercings and then piercings of other parts of the body. One aspect of earlobe stretching is that it can be done in degrees.

This means that one person can have a gauge of 4 gauge at around 5mm while another person can have a gauge of 00 at just over 10mm. So it’s not just “I have a pierced earlobe and so do you”, but I have my ears stretched and “Mine is bigger than yours”.

It is no longer a “dedicated fan of fashion”, but by how much! Stretched earlobes are popular not only because they show a willingness to embrace this new fashion trend, but also because it can be adopted gradually. In fact, the highest thickness is 20g at 0.81mm while the lowest is 00g at 10.4mm.

As the measurement number decreases, the size of the hole increases. After 00 gauge sizes increase in mm or inches so there is theoretically no maximum, although most gauge charts will show up to 1 inch or even 30 mm.

Is it safe?

Is the ear measurement safe? The short answer is yes if it is done under hygienic conditions and the instructions are followed correctly. The safe way is to have your stretched earlobes performed by a professional using hygienic tools and procedures. However, you can do this yourself if you are aware of the dangers and understand the procedures to be followed.

Some of the problems associated with stretching the ears are:

There’s a point after which the hole in your ear won’t normalize anymore. That depends on your own physiology and the way the stretching was done.

You can experience a “blowout” when the flesh of your ear blows out and protrudes above your skin level. This can be dangerous and disfiguring.

If you later decide that you no longer want that big hole in your earlobe, perhaps for professional or other reasons, plastic reconstructive surgery is very expensive. Not all employers appreciate these embellishments, especially when dealing with certain areas of the public. It may be faint-hearted of them, but that is irrelevant.
