Seborrheic keratosis (seb-o-REE-ik ker-uh-TOE-sis) is a common non-cancerous skin growth. People tend to get more of this as they get older.
Seborrheic keratoses are usually brown, black, or slightly tanned. The growths appear waxy, scaly and slightly raised. They usually appear on the head, neck, chest, or back.

symptoms
Seborrheic keratosis usually looks like a waxy or warty growth. It usually appears on the face, chest, shoulders, or back. You can develop a single growth, although multiple growths are more common.
Seborrheic Keratosis:
- The color varies from light beige to brown or black
- Is round or oval
- Has a characteristic “glued” appearance
- Is flat or slightly raised with a scaly surface
The reasons
Doctors aren’t sure what exactly is causing seborrheic keratosis. Growth tends to be normal in some families, so genes can play a role.
Risk factors
